Lake Chickamauga has long been considered a record-breaking tournament hub for bass fishing, and a frequent stop for the professional circuits, including the 2020 Bassmaster Elite Series. After being pushed back due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the highly anticipated event will be held in October at Dayton, Tennessee.
Founded in 2006, the Bassmaster Elite Series is regarded as the highest level professional bass fishing tournament. In order to qualify for the series, competitors must go through the B.A.S.S. Nation or the Bass Pro Shops. A point system is put in place throughout the season in order for existing angler competitors to stay in the series annually.
All eyes will be on our very own Buddy Gross, a Chickamauga, Georgia native. Albeit, Buddy Gross is a rookie on the Elite Series, but he is a highly accomplished angler who rapidly climbed up the ladders of professional bass fishing starting with the FLW Tour. So far he has collected over $450,000 in prize earnings throughout four tournament wins in his career, along with thirteen top 10 placements.
Most recently, Gross caught a championship-winning 27 pound, 11 ounce bass in the DEWALT Bassmaster Elite at Lake Eufaula earlier this year. Gross was ecstatic to take home the victory on stage with his family, saying “This is something you dream of as a kid because B.A.S.S. is […] the staple of the fishing world. To dream about something like this, and then for it to happen so early in my career, is amazing.”
That day, Gross won a $100,000 prize and an elite trophy; can he become a two-time winner in the first year on tour at the Chickamauga event?
The Bassmaster Elite Series will take place in our very own Dayton, Tennessee from October 16 to October 19.
